Hogwarts Legacy has been a smash hit since releasing a week ago. The action role-playing game sees you create your very own wizard or witch and set foot in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. With plenty to do and see as a fifth-year year student of Hogwarts -- who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart -- exploring the game world will take dozens of hours.
Of course, as with any new game these days, there are questions regarding the possibility to further your exploration beyond the main story. Many have been wondering if Hogwarts Legacy will eventually receive DLC. Up until now neither developer Avalanche Software nor publisher Warner Bros. Games have commented on the possibility of future content.
However speaking to IGN at this week's IGN Fan Fest, game director Alan Tew finally shed light on the prospect of DLC. Here's what he said:
“We’ve been really heads down bringing [Hogwarts Legacy] to life, so at the moment there are no current plans for DLC.”
Tew's comments, unfortunately, confirm that DLC is not currently in the works for Hogwarts Legacy; however, he didn't rule out the possibility of more content down the line. It makes sense that the developer was focused on first getting the game ready for launch. And now that it's released, they are working to smooth out any bugs or glitches. Earlier this week, the first major patch was released, resolving a number of bugs and performance issues.
Given the commercial and critical success of Hogwarts Legacy, one would assume that Warner Bros. Games wants to capitalize on the game's popularity with more content. But the fact that work has not even begun would mean that any DLC for Hogwarts Legacy would probably be at least a few months to a year out. It's possible that the drama surrounding Hogwarts Legacy's ties to JK Rowling -- the creator of the Harry Potter universe has been mired in controversy regarding the trans community -- caused some hesitation for WB Games to greenlight DLC. But now that the game is out and most everyone is enjoying it, work should begin soon-ish
There's also the possibility that WB Games opts to completely forgo DLC and go straight to a sequel. Either way, fans will undoubtedly want to continue their adventures in this wizarding world that Avalanche Studios has finally brought to life.
Are you enjoying your time with Hogwarts Legacy? What sort of future content would you want to see DLC explore?
