Spoilers! The ending of Dontnod's Life is Strange saw Max faced with the terrible ultimatum wherin she essentially has to choose between saving Arcadia Bay or her best friend Chloe's life. The ending dramatic and heart-wrenching either way.
So, like many choice-driven games have resulted, which is the right choice? The canon ending. The one that matters. Well, according to its developers, there isn't one.
Philip Bache, the game's voice director, recently told USGamer that he believes picking a definitive ending would be a disservice to those who played through the game: "I am also a player. I play a lot of games. It would almost upset me to find out one is canon. Like, you’re being told, ‘Hey cool, you made a choice. That choice was wrong.’ I would feel bad because what’s so gut wrenching about the game is the choice at the end."
Christian Divine, Life is Strange's writer concurred, "The whole game builds up to literally that moment. The point of the game is not to give that linear conclusion. It’s a choose-your-own adventure book. You can ask which one is canon, but that’s not how it works in a choose-your-own adventure book.”
What do you think of the devs statements? Which ending did you get? Which is your favourite?
Life is Strange is out now for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, iOS, and Android.
