Just days after it was announced that production on Fallout Season 2 had wrapped, Prime Video has now confirmed the series will return this December. The Season 2 premiere month was announced in a press release that also revealed the hit series had been renewed for a third season. While we still don't have an exact date, fans can at least look forward to the premiere of Season 2 in December 2025.

Prime Video's Fallout TV series is a post-apocalyptic drama based on the beloved video game franchise of the same name. The series is set in 2296, more than 200 years after a nuclear war known as the Great War laid waste to the world.

The first season primarily takes place in a retro-futuristic version of Los Angeles and follows Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell), a resident of Vault 33 who is forced to venture into the wasteland to find her kidnapped father, Hank. Along the way, she meets allies and enemies, including The Ghoul (Walton Goggins), a former Hollywood actor turned bounty hunter who has been mutated by radiation, and Maximus (Aaron Moten), a squire serving in the Brotherhood of Steel.

Season 2 will continue after the Season 1 finale, which, if you recall, ended with The Ghoul joining Lucy on a trek into the wasteland. In the final moments of the finale, we also saw Hank approaching a city that was reminiscent of New Vegas. It has now been confirmed that Season 2 will indeed take viewers to the iconic location. Serving as the central setting for 2010's Fallout: New Vegas, the post-apocalyptic city has been built upon the ruins of pre-war Las Vegas.

“We are absolutely thrilled that our global Prime Video customers will be able to delve deeper into the wonderfully surreal and captivating world of Fallout,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios. “Jonah, Lisa, Geneva, and Graham have done an exceptional job bringing this beloved video game franchise to vivid life on Prime Video.”

Fallout Season 1 debuted on Amazon's Prime Video in April of last year and has since attracted more than 100 million viewers worldwide. It is currently ranked among Prime Video's top three most-watched titles ever.

Its success is backed by critical acclaim that praises the series for its engaging narrative and story that, while heavily influenced by the games, is not a direct copy. The first season is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 94% based on 129 critic reviews.

"An adaptation that feels like a true extension of the games, Fallout is a post-apocalyptic blast for newcomers and longtime fans alike," the critics' consensus reads.

Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them.

Fallout Season 2 will premiere in December 2025. With a third season already greenlit we probably won't have to wait long until Season 3 begins production, which hopefully means a short break between seasons. In the meantime, you can watch the entire first season on Prime Video.
