Developer Eidos-Montréal has released not one, but two new gameplay videos for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. The two videos focus primarily on the gameplay in the upcoming action-adventure, highlighting how you'll use the members of your team both in combat and out of combat.
In the first video, Senior Gameplay Director Patrick Fortier details how the Guardians synergize in battle. Although you'll be playing as Star-Lord throughout the game, you'll be able to give orders to your AI teammates when in combat. As you'll see in the video, each Guardian has their own unique special abilities that they bring to the fight. The strategy in which you call upon them will be paramount during some of the game's tougher encounters.
Each member of the Guardians sort of takes on a traditional RPG archetype. Rocket is an explosive specialist, capable of taking out multiple enemies at a time. Groot is considered the support, both protecting and healing his allies. Drax is the a bruiser who inflicts stagger damage and stuns enemies. Gamora is your main damage dealer.
Star-Lord, who you'll be playing as, excels both at close range and at a distance. His jet-boots allow you to zip around the battlefield and even hover in mid-air to assess the situation. He's also armed with elemental-powered blasters.
The second video focuses more on the gameplay outside of combat. As an action-RPG, there is much more to the game besides fighting enemies. You'll explore the Milano as well as various planets, all with hidden easter eggs and nuggets of detailed information. Your fellow Guardians will also come in handy when it comes to exploring maps as their skills will help you solve environmental puzzles.
As we've seen in previous videos for the game, you'll also be required to make decisions throughout the game. The choices you make will not only determine how your story unfolds, but also defines your relationship with the team.
As you progress through the game and level up, you'll earn Ability Points. These can be spent to upgrade each Guardian and help adjust your team to fit your playstyle. There's also a workbench that can be used to upgrade gear and unlock perks.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is set to release on October 26, 2021. It will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and GeForce NOW (streaming). A Nintendo Switch "Cloud Version" is also launching in select regions on October 26.
