Variety reports that Steve Carell is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming Minecraft movie. It was back in February that the studio acquired the rights to the hit video game series which has been around since 2009. In it, players can create their own avatars and build an environment using cubes in a 3D world which can then be used to battle monsters. How that will translate to live-action is unclear.

Rob McElhenney is attached to direct, while Wonder Woman scribe Jason Fuchs penned the latest draft of the screenplay. Minecraft is currently set to be released on May 25th, 2019, so there's more than enough time to assemble the film's cast over the next year or so as the production moves forward. Over the past few years Carell has starred in movies like Anchorman 2, Foxcatcher, and The Big Short
