The magical turn-based deckbuilder, a staple since 2008, expands its reach to handheld play, inviting portable adventures in the whimsical Spiral. KingsIsle Entertainment has set a firm date for Wizard101's Nintendo Switch debut: January 13th, 2026, completing the long-running MMO's journey to all major platforms.
Priced at $19.99 on the eShop, the Switch version includes complete access to the first of five major story arcs covering Wizard City through Dragonspyre. Further worlds unlock via Crowns (premium currency) or zone passes. Unlike free-to-download Xbox and PlayStation editions (limited to expanded free areas in Krokotopia), the Switch offers more upfront content for the buy-in.
Switch accounts join the shared console server with Xbox and PlayStation players for cross-platform multiplayer, though no cross-progression exists yet sadly as platform-specific accounts remain separate.
Originally a PC exclusive, Wizard101's 2025 console launch on Xbox and PlayStation drew returning veterans and fresh faces with its charming worlds, strategic card-based combat, and family-friendly vibe. Features shine on Switch: cooperative questing, pet hatching/training, housing customization, fishing, gardening, and PvP arenas.
Key highlights include:
- Vast storyline with over 1,000 hours across 20+ worlds
- Turn-based battles emphasizing deckbuilding and timing
- Weekly events with exclusive rewards
- Social tools for trading, team-ups, and friendships
As young wizards enroll at Ravenwood Academy to battle Malistaire's darkness, the game's accessibility free early zones, optional subscriptions makes it ideal for all ages to play. Ongoing updates also help to keep the Spiral evolving.
With this release, Wizard101 has finally achieved full multi-platform presence (PC via site/Steam, all current consoles). Nostalgic players and newcomers can soon cast spells on the go. Mark January 13th for portable magic pre-orders or wishlisting may appear soon on the eShop!
