Minecraft Live 2020 recently took place. Mojang Studios revealed the newest upcoming update to the bestselling game of all-time. "Caves & Cliffs" is the update to caves that fans of Minecraft have been pleading for for years now. This update will debut in Summer 2021 and completely overhaul caving as well as introduce new mobs to the overworld.
Update 1.17 will introduce underground biomes and thereby change how the underworld generates forever. Rather than just your standard branching caves, after "Caves & Cliffs" the underground world will feature massive, sprawling caves as well as ones that are just as lush with greenery and water as the above-ground world.
This, of course, means there will be a bunch more blocks and resources added including dripstone (stalactites) and a new ore: Copper. Copper can be found much like every other metal and smelted. Leaving copper blocks exposed to the outside world and especially rain will cause the usually brown block to rust into a pale green.
There's a terrifying new mob that lurks underground called "The Warden" which will deal a heft amount of damage regardless of how strong your armour is. Back to the overworld, however; axolotls are cute creatures that swim in pools of water, goats roam on mountaintops and can deliver a hefty knockback, and there are also new squids that glow in the dark!
This new update will even introduce archaeology. Players will be able to use a brush to sweep through ruins and hopefully find all manner of treasure and fossils. Below you can check out the full Minecraft Live 2020 stream as well as some tweets from the official Minecraft Twitter account (@Minecraft) which show off some of the new stuff.
