Minecon Earth recently took place. During the livestream event,
Mojang announced that the next update to
Minecraft will entirely refurbish the Nether.
To be clear, the Nether is the red, molten, hellish dimension that players can travel to and encounter new structures and mobs — but mostly just lots of lava. It was added to the popular sandbox game all the way back in 2010 as a part of the Halloween Update. The Nether has been practically the same for nine years now.
Thankfully, the time has come for an update. The Nether will be getting some inspired, new biomes and a gang of new mobs — not to mention new building materials.
The Piglin is a civilised version of the Zombie Pigman. If a player wears gold armour, they will be able to trade with these occupants of the Nether. However, they're hostile to anyone who isn't garbed in gold and to anyone who tries to steal from their chests.
Another new mob that's coming to
Minecraft soon is called the Piglin Beast — though its name is subject to change. It's essentially an enormous warthog that will attack you and be attacked by Piglins. It's unclear what the creature will drop upon being killed but it's said to be a new source of food for the player — something which the Nether didn't previously contain.
