Ubisoft Massive's
Avatar project has been announced a while ago, but we still don't know if it's a current-gen, or a next-gen title that will debut around 2020 when the Xbox One (codenamed Scarlett) and PlayStation 4 successors are expected to launch. We're not ever sure is Ubisoft's second game set in the James Cameron-created world is an RPG, MMO, space-sim, or maybe even something else.
While Ubisoft has given no updates on the title since its reveal in 2017, it seems that we just learned its title, as 20th Century Fox, the owner of the movie rights to
Avatar, has trademarked
Avatar: Pandora Uprising for use with “
computer game discs; software, namely game software,” and the like in Europe. Considering that Fox has also recently trademarked
Alien: Blackout that is all but confirmed to be officially announced at Thursday’s Game Awards 2018, the
Avatar game might be showcased during the main show as well.
A year ago, Ubisoft Massive ensured players that their take on the
Avatar movie series will be nothing like Ubisoft Montreal's
Avatar: The VIdeo Game, that surely isn't remembered as one of the best games of 2009. The second
Avatar game will be powered by Massive's own Snowdrop Engine, and it may launch around December 18, 2020, when James Cameron's
Avatar 2 is set to debut in theaters.
Ubisoft Massive's Avatar doesn't have a set release date yet.
