While EA has already confirmed that a brand-new entry in the high-octane Need for Speed game series will be released later in the year, many fans of the long-running franchise have been hoping to see some gameplay footage from the title during this year's E3 – unfortunately, that dream is officially over.
"This year is a bit of a special one for NFS, too, as we are turning 25 years. We’ve had almost 25 years going fast, and we can’t wait to kick-start our 26th with the next NFS game," the Need for Speed team explained on the series' website. "And while we’ve had some great memories over those twenty-five years, we’re not here to look back and reminisce. We’ve got our eyes set firmly on the future."
"Are you going to hear more about the next NFS title? Yes. Is it being released this year? Yes. Will we be doing anything in June? No," they added. "It’s as simple as that, but we wanted to give you a heads up before you started asking “where are you?” Our goal is to deliver a [...] high-speed entry into the 25 years of NFS, rather than a series of promotional events. The game matters most [...]."
Although the next Need for Speed won't be shown at the E3, you should still give this year's EA Play a chance, as the event will see the reveal of new details on the future of Anthem, Battlefield V, and Apex Legends, but also Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Sea Of Solitude, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 3, and its sports games – all between Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9 in the Hollywood Palladium.
