Earlier this year, Electronic Arts announced that a new Need for Speed game was in the works. They recently reiterated this during an earnings call, teasing that it will be officially revealed within weeks. Well, it has been two since that report — which you can check out here — and a countdown recently popped up on the franchise's official website.

The countdown will reach its end on Wednesday, August 14th, at 10am ET. Currently, we have no idea what will be showed off. It will presumably be a reveal trailer which shows off flashy visuals and states that gameplay will be present at Gamescom (which begins on August 20th).

You can head over to EA's website to check out the countdown for yourself. Thanks to EA's aforementioned announcement, we know that the next Need for Speed game will be released in 2019 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Will it be a sequel to Need for Speed Payback or something new entirely? Nobody knows just yet. Though, given the poor reception to that game, it'll more than likely be something new. Tune in in two days' time to find out.
