Fans of the blue hedgehog have been longing for a racing game featuring Sonic and other characters from Sega's iconic video game franchise, and they were finally granted their wish when the Japanese company revealed back in May that Team Sonic Racing was in the works.

Sadly, Team Sonic Racing saw a delay that pushed the game's release date all the way back to the 21st of May, but delays are always a good thing and is best that they take their sweet time a quality product like the brilliant Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed—so there's no rush(no pun intended).

During this year's Tokyo Game Show, Team Sonic Racing producer Takashi Iizuka revealed a few interesting details regarding the game, as well as showing off some gameplay, and today Sega has released a video with bits and pieces of that interview—as well as revealing Wisp Circuit, Ice Mountain, and Market Street as three new stages for the game.

Iizuka mentions that Team Sonic Racing's gameplay is all about team gameplay, much like the name already suggests, and will encourage players to race with their friends either locally or online and try to win races as a team. He also mentions that the game will feature 21 tracks, some of which have been inspired by previous Sonic racing games—albeit with a few tweaks that give them a fresh new look for Team Sonic Racing.

Take a look:

Team Sonic Racing arrives this Winter! Race in a team with your friends (or against them) both offline and online, and choose from a variety of characters and tracks in the Sonic universe!

Team Sonic Racing will be available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam on the 21st of May in 2019.
