Diablo III is the third game in the
Diablo series developed by Blizzard Entertainment. The game was originally released in 2012 for Windows and macOS, eventually getting ports for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, as well as PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2014.
Back in March, Blizzard Entertainment tweeted a video of a
Diablo-themed nightlight with a caption that read "Sweet dreams". Some fans thought that the developer was alluding at a Nintendo Switch version of the game because the video literally showed someone "
switching" the
Diablo nightlight on and off.
A week after the tweet was posted, and after a lot of speculation from fans,
we reported that Polygon had reached out to Blizzard in order to find out what that tweet was all about, only to confirm that Blizzard didn't mean to hint a
Diablo III release on Nintendo's handheld console.
It turns out that today we finally have confirmation that
Diablo III is, indeed, making its way into the Nintendo Switch. Supposedly, the official announcement was meant to be revealed tomorrow but it was accidentally posted on Forbes, in a post that can no longer be found on the site. So, while it technically is an unofficial announcement, it is pretty much the official announcement fans were waiting for.
Diablo III: Eternal Collection for the Nintendo Switch is including all of the past DLC—Reaper of Souls and Rise of Necromancer expansions—as well as a new armour set that will make the character look like The Legend of Zelda's main villain Ganondorf. Not only that, but the game will also be adding multiplayer that takes advantage of the Nintendo Switch's portability for four-player co-op, online multiplayer, or co-op using just the one console—allowing players to play solo, or with their friends, anywhere they want.
Since this is an unofficial/official announcement, we didn't get a trailer but the embargo was supposed to be lifted tomorrow any way so we may get a proper trailer by either Blizzard Entertainment or Nintendo tomorrow, unless they simply decide to upload it now since it's no longer a secret. We also didn't get an official release date so we will just have to wait for that official announcement from either company. In the meantime, fans can finally rest assured now that
Diablo III: Eternal Collection is coming to the Nintendo Switch.
