Netflix has recently produced a number of different fantasy series in an effort to find its own version of HBO's
Game of Thrones but none have managed to make a dent in mainstream media. But the streaming giant remains undeterred as plans for their latest effort, a live-action adaptation of
CD Projekt Red's The Witcher series was announced as in development. However, it should be noted that the video games are actually based on a series of fantasy novels from author Andrzej Sapkowski, a fact that's often overlooked -
much to the annoyance of Sapkowski.
In a press release, it was revealed that Sapowski will be serving as a creative consultant on the series. "
I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life."
To date, Sapkowski's fantasy novel series spans 8 novels. Now the question of who could play a convincing
Geralt of Rivia becomes more than just a topic of discussion among fancast writers.
Stay tuned for further updates.
