Bethesda Faces Another Obstacle As THE ELDER SCROLLS VI Title Is A Major Subject Of Controversy

Rumor has it that The Elder Scrolls VI will be titled Redfall, but Bethesda won't be able to use it for quite some time, as Jay Falconer, the author of the book Redfall, is opposing the trademark application...

In September, it was reported that Bethesda had filed a trademark for Redfall, leading to a speculation that The Elder Scrolls VI, which was announced during last year's E3, would actually be titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Redfall. While we know that Todd Howard and his crew won't start working on it until after his brand new IP, Starfield, is shipped, it looks like we will wait for it even longer that one would expect.

As noted by GamesRadar (and first spotted by Youtuber Skullzi TV), BookBreeze, the publisher of Jay J. Falconer's series of post-apocalyptic survival thrillers titled Redfall, is opposing the Redfall trademark application against ZeniMax Media, Bethesda's parent company. According to the trial dates via the United States Trademark and Patent Office, the latest major point in the case has been scheduled for August 2020, meaning that the rumored title of TESVI may not be officially revealed until mid-2020.

"My lawyers made attempts to contact gaming company to work out a simple licensing deal for them to use my Redfall name," Falconer explained on his Twitter feed yesterday. "They ignored me every time. Shame. Left me no choice. All could have been avoided."

"I'm a very reasonable person," he added. "A couple phone calls can resolve it. I would be thrilled to have a game released using my Redfall title, but need simple licensing deal in place first. I know gaming comp is very busy, but USPTO only provides a short window to deal with it." ZeniMax could always abandon the trademark, but at the moment it looks like the company is sticking to its guns.

In an interview with GameSpot at PAX Australia 2018, ZeniMax Online Studios Game Director Matt Firor confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI won't launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as we will have to wait at least until the release of PS5 and the new Xbox, reportedly codenamed Scarlett, to play it.

Currently in pre-production at Bethesda Game Studios, the acclaimed developers of Skyrim and Fallout 4. The highly-anticipated next chapter in the iconic The Elder Scrolls series.

The Elder Scrolls VI doesn't have an official release date yet.
