Darksiders III launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC last month to rather favorable reviews. The slasher reviewed best on PC with a Metacritic score of 73, with Xbox One just behind it at 69. The PlayStation 4 version has seemingly divided critics the most, attaining an average score of 64, as both console versions still feature some major technical hiccups and many infuriating performance issues.
Developer Gunfire Games seems to understand that they released an unfinished product and has been trying to fix
Darksiders III with free updates and instant hotfixes. The second major patch for the slasher title will bring players not only some major improvements, but also an all-new combat system that should satisfy those players that haven't fallen in love with the
Dark Souls-inspired
Default mode.
Upon loading a save or starting a new game, players will now be prompted to choose between the old “
Default” and new “
Classic” combat. According to Gunfire, “
Classic” mode should feel more like two previous
Darksiders titles allowing the player to cancel out of attack animations by dodging as well use items instantly. The option can be changed at any point in gameplay options while playing the game.
Gunfire has also added a few more checkpoints to the world. In its post-launch support period,
Darksiders III will receive at least two major DLC expansions titled
The Crucible and
Keepers of the Void that will introduce new puzzles, weapons, enemies, and armor to the game.
The Crucible DLC will likely be available in January and the other one is scheduled to hit digital stores in the first quarter of 2019.
Return to an apocalyptic Earth in Darksiders III, a hack-n-slash Action Adventure where players assume the role of FURY in her quest to hunt down and dispose of the Seven Deadly Sins. The most unpredictable and enigmatic of the Four Horsemen, FURY must succeed where many have failed – to bring balance to the forces that now ravage Earth. Darksiders III is the long-anticipated, third chapter in the critically-acclaimed Darksiders franchise.
