BioWare and Netflix are teaming up for a new animated series based on the studio's beloved Dragon Age franchise. Titled Dragon Age: Absolution, the six-episode series will take us to Tevinter, an empire that we've heard much about in the games but never actually have gotten to see.
The series will feature "an ensemble of new characters inspired by, and authentic to, Dragon Age lore; including elves, mages, knights, Qunari, Red Templars, demons, and other special surprises." A teaser trailer for the show was shared today as part of Netflix's Geeked Week.
For those unfamiliar with the Dragon Age franchise, Tevinter is the oldest human nation in Thedas. It's ruled by a powerful magocracy led by the Imperial Archon. It's rumored that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will actually take us to Tevinter, which makes the location for this upcoming series all the more interesting. There's currently no release date for Dreadwolf, but Dragon Age: Absolution could help familiarize fans with the nation before the game arrives.
Dragon Age: Absolution is a collaborative effort between BioWare and Netflix with Red Dog Culture (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf) producing the animation. The series is created by showrunner Mairghread Scott (writer of Transformers: Robots in Disguise).
Dragon Age: Absolution is slated to debut on Netflix in December 2022.
