Dragon Quest XI is the latest entry in the acclaimed role-playing series that originated on the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1986. The game was released for the PlayStation 4 and Steam in August of this year; the Nintendo Switch version, however, still hasn't been released and we have no information regarding an official release date.

When Dragon Quest XI was announced, the game was supposed to be released on several platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS. Back in March, we found out that the Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Quest XI was being delayed and the Nintendo 3DS version, already out in Japan, was not going to be localised at all.

Producer and Director for Dragon Quest XI, Hokuto Okamoto and Director Takeshi Uchikawa respectively, recently sat down to answer some questions from fans and they do have some information to share regarding the Nintend oSwitch and Nintendo 3DS versions of the game.

Regarding the Nintendo Switch version of the game, Okamoto says that they "are still in the midst of development, and this includes the Japanese version. In working on the title, we expect the development to still take quite some time".

When talking about the Nintendo 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI being localised, Okamoto says that "it unfortunately didn't meet the conditions needed from a business perspective", thus giving up on the 3DS release altogether.

Long story short, the developers are still working on the Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Quest XI but still cannot give an official release date; the Nintendo 3DS version had been confirmed to not be localised back in March but the new information hints at said version not being profitable in the West.

Luckily, fans of the Dragon Quest series can still enjoy Dragon Quest XI on the PlayStation 4 or on Steam—they'll just have to keep waiting a little bit longer for that Nintendo Switch release—but at least it's good to know it hasn't been cancelled.

DRAGON QUEST® XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age™ tells a captivating tale of a hunted hero and is the long-awaited role-playing game from series creator Yuji Horii, character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama.

Dragon Quest XI is available for the PlayStation 4 and Steam.
