In just a few days, Grinding Gear Games' action RPG Path of Exile 2 will release. The free-to-play game is technically launching in "Early Access" with the game's full release planned for 2025. But even in early access, Path of Exile 2 is considered a "big game" with tons of content to dive into.
Although Path of Exile 2 is technically a free-to-play game, you'll need to purchase one of the Early Access Supporter Packs to actually play the game during this Early Access phase. There are multiple options, with the cheapest being the $30 "Early Access Supporter." This includes 300 Points ($30) to spend in the MTX Store. You'll also get an extended digital soundtrack download and the Path of Exile 2 Early Access key.
There are more expensive options that add additional digital goodies and bonuses. The top-tier supporter pack — the Liberator of Wraeclast Supporter — costs $480 and includes 4800 Points, multiple Early Access keys, and a ton of additional bonus items. You can also get Eary Access if you've spent $480 or more in lifetime purchases in the original Path of Exile on a single platform.
The Early Access SUporter Packs are now available on Xbox. Purchasing it will allow you to download the game, but you will not be able to launch and play the client until its release on December 6th. Those playing on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 will have to wait until December 6th to purchase their Supporter Packs. The packs are also available for purchase on PC and Steam.
Once you purchase a Supporter Pack, you'll have to wait for the launch of Early Access to play. That will be on December 6th at 11:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. EST local time. This is the start time on all platforms, including standalone PC clients, Steam, Epic Games Store clients, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
Early Access is expected to run for "at least 6 months" although Grinding Gear Games notes that it will take "as long as needed." Even in early access though, there is a significant amount of content, including Three Acts and a massive endgame.
At the start of Early Access, there are 50 bosses and around 400 monster types. Grinding Gear Games has plans to add content to roughly double the size of the game during Early Access and into Release. There will be no character wipe at any point during Early Access or leading into the launch.
"We will do new leagues but none of your characters will be wiped, they will just go to a league called Early Access (so they will never be in Standard)," the FAQ reads. "In some cases, characters in old leagues might be somewhat broken by balance changes though. After launch the "Early Access" characters will still exist."
Although a sequel to the 2013 hit, Path of Exile 2 is set years after the original game. You return to the dark world of Wraeclast and seek to end the corruption that is spreading. The game features co-op for up to six players.
