In 2018, Square Enix announced that a bunch of classic Final Fantasy titles were being re-released for current-gen consoles. Most of these have since been released, but there is still one left to become available. Interestingly enough, it is also the one that is most difficult to come by these days: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is an interesting game, as it was a Nintendo GameCube exclusive title that released in 2003, and has never been re-released before. Since it was a console exclusive title, only those who owned a GameCube have been able to play it, which makes it one of the most highly anticipated Final Fantasy re-releases that Square Enix announced.
The Remastered Edition of the GameCube-exclusive title is not just a better looking version of the original, as it is also introducing some new features to keep things fresh. Couch co-op is one of them, as well as a handy online multiplayer mode ; after all, the game is mainly a multiplayer experience.
Today Square Enix has released a new gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition, revealing pretty much everything there is to know about the game, it's mechanics, and the new additions that it will be featuring.
The developer also confirms that the game will allow cross-platform gameplay between the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices — which is a very welcomed addition.
What's perhaps the most interesting news, however, is the fact that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will be getting a free-to-play Lite edition — which allows players to take on three dungeons with their friends.
Here's where it gets even more interesting, as Lite Edition players will be able to experience the full game if a player that owns the normal version of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition joins them via cross-platform multiplayer.
