After a rocky launch on PC (sitting an abysmal 37% score on Metacritic),
Underworld Ascendant has received its second major update, that is now available on Steam. While the RPG game is still far from being perfect (or enjoyable), OtherSide Entertainment believes in their title and recently announced that they are planning to address the concerns players have expressed and improve the game.
In its second major patch, OtherSide dramatically changed the structure of
Ascendant, as its world is now a series of interconnected levels, allowing players to experience new and refined story, while also giving them a chance to freely explore the environment and optional side-quests at the same time.
That's obviously not the only major improvement, as OtherSide has also fixed the quick save / load option, updated enemy patrol paths and AI behavior models, vastly improved the trade menu, added additional refinements to combat feel and responsiveness, removed the intro sequence, applied general performance improvements to fix old load times, increase FPS and reduce hitching, and more.
Underworld Ascendant is the latest game from
Ultima Underworld Creator Paul Neurath and
Deus Ex Director Warren Spector.
Ascendant was released on PC in November, serving as a sequel to
Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss, which hit stores in 1992. Spector and Neurath are not the only renowned developers that produced the game, as the OtherSide Entertainment team was also supported by
BioShock: Infinite Writer Joe Fielder and
System Shock Lead Designer Tim Stellmach.
From the creative minds behind the acclaimed Ultima Underworld series, in Underworld Ascendant, Paul Neurath and Warren Spector's OtherSide Entertainment is innovating upon the series’ signature player-authored gameplay in bold new ways and bringing the ‘immersive sim’ genre forward in a breathtaking fantasy realm, rife with danger and full of intrigue.
Underworld Ascendant is now available for PC, coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in 2019.
