While developer Deck13 is currently working hard on an yet-to-be-announced project, there's no denying that
The Surge 2 is the acclaimed German studio's main priority at the moment. At its core,
The Surge 2 is a
Dark Souls-like action-RPG set over two months after the ending of 2017's first entry.
In an interview with Wccftech, the sequel's Creative Director Jan Klose revealed some new details on
The Surge 2's length. According to Klose, "
it’ll definitely take longer [to finish The Surge 2] than the first one. If you play it in a more linear way, just focusing on the first quest, the first one was an average of maybe 25 hours or something like that. If you really want to max it out, go to all the corners and really explore, there’s a lot more. I don’t honestly know how long," the director said.
Deck 13 is also planning to put the power of PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X to good use, as
The Surge 2's current build is running at 60 FPS or 4K on the consoles, so you will be able to choose between faster frame-rate and higher resolution during your own playthrough on both machines.
Although
The Surge 2's exact release date hasn't been officially announced yet, you can always take a closer look at the highly anticipated sequel's all-new, quite
War of the Worlds-y key art down below:
The Surge 2 keeps what fans and critics loved about the original – hardcore combat utilizing a unique, dynamic limb targeting system and deep character progression – while also expanding greatly upon the formula. The Surge 2 takes place in a brand new environment: a sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design, made possible by Deck13’s upgraded and improved engine. Combat is more brutal and tactical than ever, with even more options thanks to an expanded limb targeting system. In addition, more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones give players a vast arsenal to build their character with, in their fight against the array of diverse new enemies and bosses.
The Surge 2 will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019.
