Last year, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński revealed that The Witcher 4 simply won't happen. According to the CEO, the story of Geralt of Rivia, the series protagonist and main hero of the critically acclaimed trilogy, ended with Blood and Wine, the second expansion for Wild Hunt. While The Witcher 4 is not happening, the developer clearly acknowledges that abandoning the series would be unforgivable.
In a recent interview with a Polish website Bankier, Kiciński reaffirmed his interest in returning to Sapkowski's reach and colorful universe. "The first three Witcher games were desgined as a trilogy and we're sticking to that, so a potential sequel to Witcher 3 won't be titled Witcher 4." Kickiński explained. "Naturally, it doesn't mean that we're abandoning the universe we created a couple of years ago, a univere players love and want to spend even more time in. The Witcher is one of two franchises we want to build the company's future on. That's all we have to say today."
Considering that The Witcher adaptation is coming to Netflix in 2020 and Sapkowski is writing a new book set in the wonderful universe, it's understandable that CD Projekt Red won't forget about the popular series. While the studio is currently focusing on Cyberpunk 2077, CDP also has another AAA RPG in development, with a hope to release that game by 2021 – it may be a new Witcher game.
