Octopath Traveler is a role-playing game developed by Square Enix and published by Nintendo, which was released as a Nintendo Switch console exclusive in July of last year; releasing on PC(Steam) in June of this year.
In March of this year,
Square Enix revealed that they were working on a prequel to Octopath Traveler, although this brand-new was confirmed to be released for iOS and Android devices and not for consoles. It was also confirmed to only release in Japan; at least for the time being.
It seems that Square Enix may have recently revealed, or at least accidentally, that this
Octopath Traveler prequel is also going to be released outside of Japan — as the developer shared a post on Twitter suggesting that they are currently working on the "
Japanese domestic version" of the game; implying that there's plans for a Western release.
The tweet on Square Enix's official Twitter account reads as follows:
"Thank you for your enquiry concerning our products. The reason we started creating this game was because we would like more and more people to immerse themselves in the world of OCTOPATH TRAVELER. We would definitely like to provide various opportunities for our players. However, at the moment we are doing our best in order to accomplish the Japanese domestic version. About other development plans, please wait for further information."
Considering how well
Octopath Traveler has done in general, with
over one million copies sold within a month after its release, it was only a matter of time for Square Enix to also wnat to release the mobile device prequel here in the West.
It is also worth reminding that this is in no way confirmation that the
Octopath Traveler prequel is, indeed, releasing outside of Japan. Again, chances for it releasing here in the West are very high. Fingers crossed.
