Anodyne is a game developed by independent studio Analgesic Productions and published by Nnooo. The game was originally released in March of 2013 on Steam for Windows, macOS, and Linux—getting an Android port later that year. A PlayStation 4 version of the game has recently been announced and will release on the 19th of September.

The game is heavily inspired by role-playing games from the 8 and 16-Bit era such as The Legend of Zelda, StarTropics, and the Mother series(known as Earthbound in the West). Gameplay-wise, the game features a top-down view much like the aforementioned games, and the combat mimics that of Zelda—instead of the classic RPG approach of turn-based battles.

In Anodyne, players take control of Young as he travels through nature, urban setting, and even abstract worlds—all of which exist in Young's subconscious, giving the game a unique and bizarre theme that seems to be inspired by Nintendo's very own Earthbound; full of surreal places, and characters.

Check it out:

Anodyne takes place in the haunting, vibrant subconscious mind of the game’s protagonist, Young. Navigate the various natural, urban and abstract environments within Young’s innermost self to help sweep away demons, defeat enemies and solve personal puzzles.

Anodyne will be available for the PlayStation 4 on the 19th of September.
