Sega Has Officially Announced That A MEGA DRIVE MINI Will Be Coming Out Very Soon, But There Is A Catch

Much like Nintendo releasing classic editions of the NES and SNES, Sega seems to be doing what Nintendoes(I'm not sorry). The announcement was made druing Sega's FES 2018 and was later posted on the official Twitter from Sega Japan and states that they are working on a Mega Drive Mini. The Mega Drive, also known as the Sega Genesis in North America, is arguably Sega's most popular console and was released in 1988 during the "console wars" between Sega and Nintendo.

A week ago, President and COO of Sega Kenji Matsubara played with the idea of going back to making consoles but nothig was official until now.

As reported by Kotaku, the AtGames officially announced on Facebook that the Mega Drive Mini will be powered by their technology. AtGames is a company that manufactures licensed retro consoles and have already released a Mega Drive last year in order to compete with Nintendo's NES Mini.

The announcement doesn't mention a release outside of Japan but it is very likely that they will be launching the console in the West later on. Maybe an E3 announcement will shed some light on whether the console is coming out here in the West or not, as well as what games the console will come out with, and other relevant details.
