Activision and Vicarious Visions announced Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 last week, after months of being rumoured to be in the works, and it was revealed that this is a remaster that includes pretty much everything present in the first two entries in the long-running Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series.
The game was actually revealed by Tony Hawk himself — and on his 52nd birthday, no less — and this was actually quite exciting news in and of itself, since a couple of years ago The Birdman himself had stated that he was no longer working with Activision.
Oddly enough, Tony Hawk revealing that Activision and him were no longer working together came as a result of fans constantly asking him about the possibility of a new Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game, or even a remaster of older games in the series.
Jen Oneal, Studio Head of Vicarious Visions, has recently revealed that Tony Hawk has been involved in the development of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 from the beginning. In fact, he's the go-to person whenever the developer comes up with new ideas for the remaster.
"Tony really wanted a very faithful remaster, which is what we are doing. He is still really close to all of the skaters from the first two games, and they're all present [in the remasters]. We ran plans by him from the get-go, and shared with him any new ideas that we had. He knows what the culture of skate is and how we need to represent it," Oneal revealed during a recent interview with GameSpot.
Tony Hawk being this heavily involved in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is definitely reassuring. Again, most fans of the series, myself included, thought that the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise was a thing of the past after Tony himself revealed that he was no longer working with Activision — and we can all appreciate the fact that he's now back.
