The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, the prequel to Dontnod Entertainment's
Life is Strange 2, now has a release date. The developer announced today on Twitter that the new adventure will begin next week when the game releases June 25 in North America and Europe and June 26 in Australia.
First revealed at E3,
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is a standalone narrative experience set in the
Life is Strange universe. Set three years after
Life is Strange,
Captain Spirit tells the story of Chris, an ordinary 9-year-old boy with a big imagination. Desiring to become a superhero, Chris goes on all sorts of imaginary adventures with his toys and costumes, but the developer teases
"today something truly extraordinary will happen to him."
Although
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is a completely brand new, standalone story, it is connected in some way to
Life is Strange 2; it's set in the same timeline, setting, and universe. According to the developer, players will be able to discover hidden secrets and clues that hint at the story and setting of
Life is Strange 2. Additionally, some of the choices and actions you make as Chris in
Captain Spirit will carry over to
Life is Strange 2,
which we learned today will release its first episode in September. There will also be nods to the first game in series.
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit will be completely free when it arrives next week on Xbox One, PS4, and PC and requires no additional purchases to enjoy the full narrative experience.
