There was reportedly some friction between Sony and Venom helmer Ruben Fleischer on the comic book movie starring Spider-Man extraterrestrial nemesis. That's why the news that Fleischer is high on the list to replace Travis Knight (Bumblebee) as the director on the Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg-led video game adaptation is a bit of a surprise.

Since the project was first announced back in 2008, directors David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Joe Carnahan, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg, and Knight were all attached- making Fleischer the 8th director to sign up. Tom Holland has signed on as the treasure-hunting protagonist of the series, Nathan Drake. The film is said to focus on the early training of Drake and will feature younger versions of the fan-favorite video game characters. As such, Wahlberg will be playing Drake's mentor, Sully. The film has been in development for so long that at one point, Wahlberg was attached to play Drake.
