Astral Chain is a new hack and slash/adventure game developed by PlatinumGames that was released as a Nintendo Switch exclusive title just a few days ago; launching both physically and digitally on the 30th of August.
While
Astral Chain was very well received by critics, currently with a very solid 87/100 on review aggregator site Metacritic, it seemed like the game wasn't being embraced as positively by players; with some going as far as rating the game a 0 on the site.
As it turns out, some players were salty over the fact that
Astral Chain was being released as a Nintendo Switch exclusive title, and those poor reviews the game was getting had nothing to do with the actual quality of it — especially since the great majority of negative reviews came from people who hadn't even played the game.
Hideki Kamiya, founder of PlatinumGames, has recently commented on this issue by reminding everyone that Nintendo is
Astral Chain's actual publisher, and that players should probably ask Nintendo whether they're willing to share the IP with PlayStation.
"
Well… it would be great to have Mario, Zelda, and Metroid on the PS4 too… As for me, do I hate PlayStation…? I’m just a developer fulfilling my contractual obligations so I don’t know, maybe you can try asking my publisher and investor Nintendo?," replied Kamiya on a recent tweet posted on his official Twitter account.
Something similar happened when
Bayonetta 2 — a game that was also developed by PlatinumGames and published by Nintendo — was revealed to be a Nintendo Wii U exclusive, so this isn't Kamiya's first rodeo when it comes to salty fans who don't understand why games are made exclusives when companies like Nintendo actually pay to have these games produced.
Astral Chain is a new action game from PlatinumGames, the creators of the Bayonetta™ series. As part of a police special forces unit in a multi-cultural futuristic city, players work together with a humanoid special weapon, Legion, in a synergetic action system of battle and exploration.
Astral Chain is currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
