We have a new top contender for most popular video game at the moment! The newly released Fire Emblem Engage video game that debuted almost a week ago just surpassed 144,558 units sold, taking it right to the top in sales! It surpassed the long standing leader Pokémon Scarlet & Violet for the first time. The game features a new style of combat for characters completing quests in a fantasy world.
Fire Emblem Engage officially launched on January 20th for its first wave of DLC releases. There are expected to be 3 more waves of releases to follow.
With 43,983 units—which increased to a total of almost 5 million units sold in Japan alone—Pokémon dropped to second place, followed by Splatoon 3 with an extra 16,091 units sold. The majority of the top 10 games were Nintendo Switch titles, with Gran Turismo 7 for the PlayStation 5 taking ninth place with an additional 5,468 units.
Nintendo's website describes the game:
In a war against the Fell Dragon, four kingdoms worked together with heroes from other worlds to seal away this great evil. One-thousand years later, this seal has weakened and the Fell Dragon is about to reawaken. As a Divine Dragon, use rich strategies and robust customization to meet your destiny—to collect 12 Emblem Rings and bring peace back to the Continent of Elyos.
