Pretty much since the Nintendo Switch was officially unveiled, the Nintendo 3DS has steadily been getting less support from The Big N; understandable considering that the 3DS was released all the way back in 2011, and the Switch has been around for a little over 2 years now.
The Nintendo Wii U has been a completely different story, however, since the console was pretty much dead on arrival when it launched in 2013 and was never able to becomes the success that its predecessor, the Nintendo Wii, managed to become.
Regardless of the current status of both the 3DS and the Wii U, these consoles still have a loyal fanbase and Nintendo has kept both their respective eShops active; that is, until now.
According to the official Nintendo UK website, credit card support will be dropped from the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U eShop "
as of September"; meaning that players will either have to purchase a Nintendo eShop Gift Card, or make their last purchases using their credit cards before September.
While this doesn't mean that Nintendo will terminate the 3DS and Wii U eShop stores, this is one of the final nails in both of the consoles' coffins. If you're one of those players who still own either of those consoles, it is best to purchase that game you've always been on the fence about buying soon, since you won't be able to do it in the near future; at least not with a credit card.
