Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, for the Nintendo Switch, is the latest entry in the
Mario Kart series, being the complete version of the original
Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U—first released back in 2014.
While
Mario Kart 8 was already a pretty good game in its own right, a few months after its release it saw two DLCs that added brand new characters, and tracks, as well as skins for some of the characters. All of this content, plus a new—and proper—Battle mode were added in
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as well as the Inklings from the
Splatoon series as newcomers.
The Legend of Zelda's Link was actually part of the first DLC pack in
Mario Kart 8, and came with a Hylian Shield/horse-inspired bike. Today Nintendo has made available a new skin for Link that sees him wearing
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Champion Tunic—as opposed to the classic green tunic he was already sporting in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe—as well as the Master Cycle Zero, also from
Breath of the Wild.
While this new update just came out of nowhere, it is also free, so players can enjoy it as soon as they open the game. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
added Nintendo Labo support just about a month ago, and this new DLC will probably mean that new updates are also on the way, which is a more than welcomed strategy to lure players back—especially now that we're a couple of months away from the new
Nintendo Switch Online service.
