New Super Mario Bros. U is the fourth title in the
New Super Mario Bros. series, which came out in 2013 as a launch title for the Nintendo Wii U; keeping the traditional 2D sidescrolling video game action that the classic
Super Mario Bros. series is known for.
Given how mismarketed the Nintendo Wii U was, and how it eventually the console became one of Nintendo's biggest flops in recent history, Nintendo decided to make amends and has been porting some of their best titles on the Wii U to the Switch; Nintendo's new handheld hybrid console.
New Super Mario Bros. U is one of those titles that got the Nintendo Switch port treatment, getting a Deluxe edition in the same fashion that
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe did, which included Toadette as a new playable character, as well as the
New Super Luigi U expansion; all in one package.
Today we have some new information regarding
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, as it has been reported that the game managed to sell — as of the weekend ending on the 17th of February — a very impressive 431,771 physical copies in Japan; having released worldwide on the 11th of January.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe proves, like
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe did in 2017, that these Wii U ports do sell well thanks to the popularity of the Nintendo Switch; a console that, unlike the Wii U, was appropriately marketed from the beginning. We still don't have worldwide number of sales for the game, but it'll definitely interesting to see how the game has been selling around the world.
