Nintendo Has Finally Announced The Rumored NINTENDO SWITCH LITE; Expected To Release In September

The rumors were true, and Nintendo has finally, and officially, announced a mini version of the Switch in the form of the brand-new Nintendo Switch Lite, which is expected to release in September of this year.

Last month, rumors about Nintendo wanting to introduce a budget revision of the Nintendo Switch started doing the rounds — although the developer obviously decided to remain tight-lipped and not provide any details regarding the veracity of the leaks.

Of course, once The Big N addressed the rumors they simply stated that new hardware is always being in development at Nintendo; hoping to put an end to these rumors that had already begun to seem even more plausible due to even more leaks making their way online.

Well, the rumors turned out to be true, as Nintendo announced today the Nintendo Switch Lite; a revised version of their popular handheld hybrid consoles that takes away a few of the features that made the console a hybrid, but keeps enough features to actually justify the revision.

First things first, the Nintendo Switch Lite will be releasing on the 20th of September and will retail for $199.99 MSRP, which is $100 less than the current Nintendo Switch.

When it comes to the features that have been removed, the Nintendo Switch Lite will no longer allow players to either play games on their TVs, or even remove the Joy-Con, as the console is one solid unit without the detachable controllers; making it a handheld and no longer a hybrid.

Due to the nature of the console itself, now that it is just basically a handheld, some games in the Nintendo Switch library will not be playable on the Nintendo Switch Lite; such is the case of titles like Super Mario Party and 1-2-Switch, although Joy-Con controllers can be paired with the Nintendo Switch Lite; players will still have to play in the console's small screen, however.

Another interesting detail about the Nintendo Switch Lite is that, since Joy-Con controllers are no longer dettachable, Nintendo has done away with the individual directional buttons and gone with a D-pad instead; which is definitely something that fans will appreciate.

The Nintendo Switch Lite will come in Yellow, Gray, and Turquoise, although Nintendo has revealed that a Zacian and Zamazenta editions will become available on the 8th of November ahead of the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield release on the 15th of November. The catch? These Pokémon Sword/Shield editions will only be available while supplies last.

A new addition to the Nintendo Switch family will arrive on 9/20. Nintendo Switch Lite is compact and lightweight, making it easy to take on the go! This dedicated handheld device lets you play all Nintendo Switch games that support handheld mode. It will be available in three different colors.

Nintendo Switch Lite will be releasing on the 20th of September.
