Yesterday Nintendo revealed that a Nintendo Treehouse Live presentation would be streamed today, in which they would finally be revealing proper gameplay for the soon-to-be-released Paper Mario: The Origami King; something that fans of the series have been impatiently waiting to see.
More than gameplay itself, fans of the Paper Mario series have been eagerly waiting to see how the new combat system implemented in Paper Mario: The Origami King will affect the game, and whether this new system will finally bring the series back to its RPG roots.
Well, today Nintendo delivered, as they released gameplay that gave fans a pretty good idea of what to expect from Paper Mario: The Origami King, and will definitely help them decide whether the upcoming title is a hit or a miss — especially those who didn't like the last two entries in the series.
Unfortunately, although many have seen this coming for a while now, Paper Mario: The Origami King will not feature experience points; instead, players will be rewarded with coins and confetti that will be used to purchase items/attacks.
These items/attacks break as players use them, meaning that the game will actually be more similar to Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Color Splash than the first two entries in the series — which has some fans sorely disappointed. Don't take my word for it, though, and be sure to check out the gameplay video down below.

The kingdom has been ravaged by an origami menace! Join Mario and his new partner, Olivia, as they team up with unlikely allies like Bowser and the Toads to battle evil Folded Soldiers.
Paper Mario: The Origami King will release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on Friday the 17th of July.
