Nintendo has seemingly had great luck with their mobile ventures so far. Pokemon Go was a massive success, while Super Mario Run clocked up nearly 80 million downloads within weeks or launching. However, the former was a bigger win for The Pokemon Company rather than Nintendo, while only 5% of those 80 million players actually ended up buying the game. So, pretty mixed results all in all then.
What those releases have done is bring the company some major exposure, and now Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima has confirmed that there will be a new Nintendo mobile game at least two to three times a year moving forward. That's certainly a pretty ambitious plan from the company.
No further details were provided, but this news follows another disappointing sales report from Nintendo, so they were likely trying to keep investors happy. Whether we're talking about original titles or pre-existing franchises, this news is still exciting, and their fortunes could be about to turn around thanks to this and the upcoming launch of the Switch. What do you want them to bring to mobiles?
