The Nintendo 64 was initially released 1996 and it has since become a classic. One of the reasons for this console's success was that most of its games pretty much laid out the formula, as well as setting the bar, for 3D games in general.
The console was also one of the first to feature four controller ports, which dramatically changed the way players experienced the games with their friends, as well as adding more buttons to the controllers, and even including a Control Stick for 3D games.
The Nintendo 64's game library is also one of the reasons the console is held so dearly by gamers. With genre-defining games like
Super Mario 64 with its innovative camera controls, and
Goldeneye for showing that first person shooters in homeconsoles were viable.
Now we got some new information that hints at Nintendo wanting to bring the Nintendo 64 back as they filed a new trademark in Japan. According to
IGN, via
Japanese Nintendo, Nintendo filed trademarks for N64 video game program, N64 controller, Joystick, and TV game machine.
With the massive success of the NES, and SNES Classic, it was only a matter of time before Nintendo decided to make a Nintendo 64 Classic including some of the best games available for the console. The news is also coming just in time after Nintendo has announced that the
NES Classic Edition is getting a re-release on the
29th of June, and the SNES Classic Edition will be available before the year ends.
