This is probably the news that Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, as well as those who are still on the fence of subscribing, have been wanting to hear: Nintendo plans to stop adding games to the Nintendo Entertainment System feature at some point.
While the statement itself is rather vague, not to mention somewhat obvious, it does open the door for the company finally addressing fan demands and add apps for other consoles such as the Super Nintendo, GameCube, and maybe even the Wii.
If there is one complaint that most Nintendo Switch Online subscribers have, is the fact that Nintendo keeps milking the classic NES titles that fans have played time and time again.
The Virtual Console was a perfect example that Nintendo knows how to deliver the goods, and their online service has been available since September and they still haven't even confirmed that games from other consoles are coming.
Earlier in January, a rumor was going around claiming that
Super Nintendo games would be added to the Nintendo Switch Online service soon, but we haven't heard any official news from Nintendo; with the
Super Nintendo files being completely removed from the Nintendo Switch Online app.
Hopefully Nintendo gets their act together and officially reveals these new consoles for their online service. In the meantime, all fans can do is keep waiting for Nintendo to address their demands.
With a Nintendo Switch Online* membership, you’ll get access to online play in compatible games, a growing catalog of classic NES™ titles with newly added online play, and cloud backup for your save data in compatible games.
