Nintendo announced another sales milestone for its Nintendo Switch console. The new system has already sold 10 million units in less than 12 months. Despite launching in March, a month not usually reserved for the launch of a new home console, the Switch has been one of the most in-demand systems, especially during the busy holiday shopping season.
While we don't have specific Black Friday numbers just yet, the Switch had been incredibly successful in the months leading up to the season. Since July, the Nintendo Switch has been the top-selling current generation console hardware in the United States. Judging by the latest 10 million milestone, it would appear the Switch had a successful November as well.
It's quite a turnaround for Nintendo which saw its Wii U console flop hard, selling only 13.5 million units to date. At this pace, it wont be long before the Switch eclipses that mark, especially with a 2018 lineup that includes Nintendo-published titles like the Bayonetta franchise as well as third-party games like Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.
In the meantime, there's plenty for Switch owners to currently enjoy, including Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, two games which were up for Game of the Year at this year's Video Game Awards. Breath of the Wild came away with the victory, but Super Mario Odyssey did win Best Family Game.
