Waiting for the long-awaited Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game to release has been quite the journey for fans of Nintendo's beloved crossover fighting series, and today we have great news since the game has been officially confirmed to have gone Gold today; meaning that the game is now complete and ready to be shipped.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is bringing together a massive roster that features characters from iconic video game franchises from first and third party developers, making the game the biggest crossover fighting game in history. In the last Super Smash Bros. Direct, we were also introduced to the last three characters to be introduced in the game: Ken Masters from Street Fighter and Incineroar from the Pokémon series as the last two characters available at launch, and Piranha Plant from the Super Mario Bros. series as the first of 5 DLC characters.

Today, we also get some new details about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from Masahiro Sakurai himself; from new information about the latest characters introduced, to things that were left out and even amiibo support. This new information comes from the latest issue of Famitsu magazine via Ryokutya2089 as translated by Siliconera.

On Ken joining

“While he may have a lot that is different from Ryu, there are players who are sensitive to the frame. Please think of him as mostly a bonus Echo Fighter.

On Incineroar joining

“I’ve always wanted to make a pro-wrestling character! He’s voiced by Unsho Ishizuka. He recorded new lines just for this game. Again, we pray that his soul may rest in peace.”

Various amiibo

“It takes about a year after making the prototype for its release, so please forgive us for the wait.”

Removal of Trophies

“That was decided early on. I wanted to split the workforce more for other things. They required a lot more work than what people might think.”

Spirits

“It’ll be easier to understand after playing. We’ll summarize the project designs after release.”

Online Matchmaking

“The game is completely synchronized. Distance (between players) is a top deciding factor.”

VIP Matches (Elite Smash)

“The true game for advanced players, where they won’t run into beginners and can brag about being placed among other merits.”

Piranha Plant

“Will be available about a month or two after release.”

Strongest Ultimate enemy

“I’d like to write more about Adventure Mode if given the opportunity. The ROM is already complete.”

Legendary game worlds and fighters collide in the ultimate showdown—a new entry in the Super Smash Bros. series for the Nintendo Switch system! New fighters, like Inkling from the Splatoon series and Ridley from the Metroid series, make their Super Smash Bros. series debut alongside every Super Smash Bros. fighter in the series…EVER!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be available for the Nintendo Switch on the 7th of December.
