In spite of some fans not fully supporting the new entry in the Pokémon series, both
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield have actually been selling like hot cakes since the games launched this past Friday; not really a surprise, but fan outrage could've suggested otherwise.
As if that wasn't enough, new information shared by Game Data Library has revealed that
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield had sold, within the first three days since launch in Japan, a combined 1,364,544 copies; making it the best-selling video game of 2019 in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Just yesterday we reported that
Pokémon Sword alone had managed to make its way into the Number #1 spot in the UK charts, taking the spot from
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and even managing to beat out Respawn Entertainment's
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
With
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield now dominating the market in Japan, it's only a matter of time until the recently released
Pokémon titles become one of the best-selling games of the year here in the West as well; not bad for a game that released not even a week ago.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be set in Galar, an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon live together in this region, and they’ve worked together to develop the industries here.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
