It had been rumoured for a while that Nintendo was working on a collection that would include all of the 3D Super Mario titles, and this was finally confirmed today when the developer announced Super Mario 3D All-Stars; well, except that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is not included in the collection at all.

While Super Mario 3D All-Stars may not be including the critically acclaimed Super Mario Galaxy 2, it is including Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and the first Super Mario Galaxy, so this collection is still pretty much worth checking out in spite of the fact.

Super Mario Galaxy, however, was originally relesed for the Nintendo Wii, and it featured motion controls that were quite necessary to enjoy the game at its fullest. The Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con controllers can easily be used as the Wii's Nunchucks, but what about Handheld mode or the Pro Controller? Thanks to the people over at Polygon, we have an answer to that question.

In an official statement that Nintendo issued to Polygon, it has been confirmed that Super Mario Galaxy can be played in Handheld mode with both attached and detached Joy-Cons; when the Joy-Cons are attached, players can use the console's capacitive screen to move the in-game cursor.

"Super Mario Galaxy is supported in TV, Tabletop and Handheld Modes. In TV and Tabletop modes, motion controls are required for pointer functionality. In Handheld Mode, pointer functionality has been adapted to use Touch Screen," reads Nintendo's statement on the matter.

Polygon also confirms that Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Switch supports the Pro Controller, although Nintendo doesn't reveal exactly how that will work, but it is very likely that the cursor can be moved by simply moving the controller.

It is also worth mentioning that the Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con controllers, unlike the Nintendo Wii's Nunchucks, don't need to be pointed directly at a sensor bar, so players won't even have to be constantly pointing at the screen in order to move the cursor; making the Pro Controller more than viable when playing the game in TV, Tabletop, and even Handheld mode.

Three Mario adventures in one collection jumps on to Nintendo Switch! With HD visuals, take Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy on the go in Super Mario 3D All-Stars. The collection arrives September 18 as a limited release until the end of March 2021.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars releases for the Nintendo Switch, for a limited time, on Friday the 18th of September.
