A New Record! has been set by Nintendo and Bandai Namco, as it's been recently reported that
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is currently the best-selling fighting video game of all time; surpassing, even, Capcom's
Street Fighter II.
Capom's
Street Fighter II — which was released all the way back in 1991 — is the game that, until now, held the record as the best-selling fighting game in history with an impressive 15.5 million copies sold; including all seven revisions since its original launch.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, on the other hand, released in December of 2018, and the latest Financial Results Briefing hs revealed that as of the 30th of September the crossover fighting game had sold a very impressive 15.71 million copies; not even a whole year after it released.
According to the briefing,
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has already surpassed
Super Mario Odyssey and
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild — two of the console's heavy hitters — each with 15.38 and 14.54 million units sold, respectively; the best-selling console on the Switch, however, is
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with an incredible 19.01 million copies sold.
Legendary game worlds and fighters collide in the ultimate showdown—a new entry in the Super Smash Bros. series for the Nintendo Switch system! New fighters, like Inkling from the Splatoon series and Ridley from the Metroid series, make their Super Smash Bros. series debut alongside every Super Smash Bros. fighter in the series…EVER!
