Just a few days ago Nintendo released a video that went over some of the new additions in
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one of which was the now-staple Stage Builder mode that, as the name suggests, allows players to make their own stages to battle in.
The
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Ver. 3.0 update went live just a couple of days ago and, to no one's surprise, players already began making their own stages with inappropriate imagery; something that could've been seen coming from a mile away.
As a result, Nintendo has been removing any stages that could be somewhat inappropriate, or offensive even, keeping in mind that Stage Builder allows players to "draw" platforms instead of using predetermined platforms. Needless to say, there was a lot of phallic imagery in those now-removed stages.
Some stages were even more offensive to the point of some players posting stages that referenced the World Trade Center terrorist attack in 2001, or even having stages that recreated sexual intercourse.
Nintendo also had to censor messages in
Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS when they introduced the Miiverse stage, which would regularly show Miiverse drawings or messages that would be shown in the stage's background; featuring all kinds of inappropriate content.
The good news is that there are quite a bunch(the majority, in fact) of stages that are legitimately awesome, so there are still a lot of levels worth checking out. Nintendo has been thoroughly removing any inappropriate stages they find but it's likely that players have not seen the last of those.
