When
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening released for the Nintendo Switch, the game got a lot of praise from critics due to its top quality level design — which is pretty much the same from the original Game Boy version — and its beautiful graphics, although most agreed on one thing: the game's unstable framerate was a big issue.
Unstable framerate on a Nintendo game is actually quite unusual, since Nintendo 99% of the time favours performance over graphics; locking games at 30 or 60fps depending on the hardware's limitations. The problem with
Link's Awakening is that the game runs at 60fps most times, but is also constantly dropping to 30fps; making the game feel quite unpolished.
As it turns out, Nintendo just yesterday released a new update for
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, although it isn't the update that most players were expecting, as it doesn't fix the game's jarring framerate issue.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Update Ver. 1.0.1, according to the
official Nintendo Support website, has "
fixed an error where certain conditions would cause Marin to stop moving in Toronbo Shores, and the game would lock up."
Additionally, this new update has also fixed already existing save files that had been affected by the aforementioned error. No word about the game's framerate or whether they even acknowledge it as an issue.
Hopefully the people over at Grezzo — the studio that handled the remake of the game — will soon address this issue. It is worth mentioning, however, that
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Nintendo Switch is perfectly playable, but they really need to fix the framerate problem.
