Back in May of this year, video game developer and publisher Nicalis announced that they were working on
Crystal Crisis; a spiritual successor to Capcom's
Super Puzzle Fighter series. The game was announced for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, but we never got an official release date—with the developer fixing a provisional launch at some point during Fall.
Not even a year after
Puzzle Fighter was released, Capcom decided to shut down the tile-matching mobile game. Luckily, Nicalis was way ahead of them and already working on
Crystal Crisis; which brings together all of the elements players love about the
Super Puzzle Fighter series, sans the Capcom-owned characters, obviously.
Crystal Crisis, however, has its very own roster of characters from series like
The Binding of Isaac,
Code Princess EX,
Cave Story, and even characters from
Tezuka Productions like Black Jack and Atom—more commonly known in the West as
Astro Boy.
Recently, Nicalis has announced that
Crystal Crisis will not be releasing this Fall, but will instead be releasing on the
23rd of April in 2019. As a fun fact, Capcom's
Puzzle Fighter was shut down in April this year, so this will likely wash off that bitter taste the cancelling of the game left on fans of the
Super Puzzle Fighter series.
An all-star cast of heroes has gathered to test their mettle in this cute and chaotic new color-matching combat game for Nintendo Switch. Crystal Crisis is presented like a one-on-one fighting game, but instead of pressing buttons to kick and punch, players arrange falling gems into matching colors to clear them from the screen and inflict damage on their opponents. It’s the ultimate puzzle battle throw down!
Crystal Crisis will be available for the Nintendo Switch on the 23rd of April in 2019.
