Bayonetta 2 Director Yosuke Hashimoto left Platinum Games after being there since its founding in 2007. Hashimoto-San announced the news of Twitter yesterday, sharing the following statement:
“This tweet will be a little more personal than usual. Yesterday, January 31, was my last day at Platinum Games. The memories I made during my 13 years at Platinum, working with dozens of talented individuals on Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, and Star Fox Zero are priceless to me. Let me take this opportunity to share my thanks with anyone who has worked with me, supported me, or played my games. I hope to take the experience I gained at Platinum and use them on whatever I work on in the future. Thank you again.”
While Hashimoto is best known for his work on the
Bayonetta series (he not only directed the sequel, but also produced the first entry in the acclaimed slasher series), he also co-directed
Star Fox Zero.
With no confirmation from Platinum, it was presumed that Hashimoto was working on, or maybe even directing, the third
Bayonetta game, that was announced in December 2017. During Wednesday's Nintendo Direct, the Japanese studio gave us a brief update on
Bayonetta 3, stating that Platinum is still working on the title. With Hashimoto gone, it looks like
B3 is being helmed by Hideki Kamiya, the director of the first
Bayonetta, The Wonderful 101, and most recently Microsoft's canceled
Scalebound.
