Nintendo announced last week that the epic clash between man and machine will begin in April 2012 as Xenoblade Chronicles hits U.S. retailers for the Nintendo Wii (the game is already available in Japan and Europe).

The main character, Shulk, is a weapons researcher who must confront the Mechon by wielding the ancient Monado blade. It's the only weapon that has any effect against the Mechon, and it also enables Shulk to see the future.

Players are able to customize their characters with a variety of weapons and armor choices, as well as headgear, boots and gloves. As in many role-playing games, players can then gain experience and upgrade their characters. Players can watch their enemies, learn their tactics and unleash real-time counterattacks.

Xenoblade Chronicles has already launched in Japan and Europe to positive reviews, including several perfect scores. It will be available exclusively through U.S. GameStop retail locations, www.gamestop.com and www.nintendo.com for $49.99 this coming spring.

About Xenoblade Chronicles

Available exclusively for the Wii system, the Xenoblade Chronicles game combines science fiction and fantasy into an unforgettable open-world adventure. Players will discover expansive environments and deep character customization options as they delve into an epic conflict between the Homs (humans) and Mechons (robots) and uncover the secret of the ancient Monado blade. With richly detailed role-playing elements, Xenoblade Chronicles offers an extraordinary experience for veteran gamers and genre newcomers alike.
