Super Mario Party is the eleventh entry in the main line
Mario Party series, which originated on the Nintendo 64 back in 1998. The game was released on the 1st and 5th of October in Japan and North America, respectively, for the Nintendo Switch.
A recent report reveals that, in Japan,
Super Mario Party has managed to outsell the previous entry in the
Mario Party series;
Mario Party 10 for the Nintendo Wii U. The news comes from
Media Create, which reveals that
Super Mario Party sold an estimate of 150,000 copies in its first week since launch. In contrast, in Japan
Mario Party 10 roughly managed to sell 52,000 copies in its first week after launching back in 2015.
While this may sound quite an achievement for
Super Mario Party, it is worth mentioning that the Nintendo Wii U is one of Nintendo's biggest flops in recent years, and
Mario Party 10 barely making it to 52 thousand sales in its first week may not be the game's fault but the fact that not many people owned a Wii U.
Media Create also mentions that
Mario Party titles are longtime best-sellers, which made
Mario Party 10 eventually sell close to 250,000 units—which is five times what it managed to sell that first week.
The Mario Party™ series is coming to the Nintendo Switch™ system with super-charged fun for everyone! The original board game style has been kicked up a notch with deeper strategic elements, like specific Dice Blocks for each character.
Super Mario Party is available for the Nintendo Switch.
